3 Truths About Sowing and Reaping
You’ve got to sow it to see it.
Todd Mullins
There is no harvest season without a planting season. If you don’t sow it, you’re not going to see it. This principle of sowing and reaping is found throughout the Word of God—from the prophets in the Old Testament to the words of Jesus in the Gospels to the teachings of the Apostle Paul. If you can understand this Spiritual lesson, it’s going to unlock Spiritual truth and revelation in your life. If you don’t sow it, you’re not going to see it.
1. You Reap What You Sow
If you sow corn, you’re going to get corn. If you sow beans, you’re not going to have a field of cabbage. It doesn’t work that way!
Today, you’re living in the harvest of what you planted yesterday and in the days before yesterday. If you don’t like the field you’re standing in, it’s time to plant a new seed in the ground because you reap what you sow.
2. You Reap Where You Sow
You can’t sow in that field over there and expect to reap a harvest in this field. It doesn’t work that way.
You can’t sow all your time at work and expect to reap a harvest at home. You can’t give all your energy and all your attention to your job and think you’re going to reap a blessing with your family because you reap where you sow. That’s not to say you shouldn’t work hard at work—but you can’t put all your seed in that field and reap a harvest at home because you reap where you sow!
3. You Reap in Proportion To What You Sow
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, but whoever sows generously will reap generously.
2 Corinthians 9:6
Now, this is completely logical when you think about it. If you go out into a field and plant four or five seeds in the ground, at best, you’re only going to get four or five stalks of corn. This won’t feed many people.
But if you go out and cover this field with thousands of seeds—putting them all over the place—you can expect it will produce thousands of stalks of corn. This is because you reap in proportion to what you sow.
Whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly. Whoever sows generously is going to reap generously.
This is true in both the physical and Spiritual world. It’s both a natural and supernatural law, and it applies to every area of your life:
- Where you invest your time.
- What you do with the talents and abilities God has given you.
- Your attitude and the words that you speak.
If you sow negativity and criticism, you’ll reap those same things. But if you sow encouragement and life-giving words over your family, marriage, or at your job, encouragement and life-giving words will come right back.
This week, ask yourself:
- What have you sown lately? What seed have you put in the ground of God’s Kingdom?
- How have you sown lately? Have you sown it sparingly or generously?
- Have you been holding back? If so, surrender this area to God.
Take one step this week: Put some seed in the ground and see what God is going to do with it!
You’ve got to sow it in order to see it.
