TODAY'S READING
Protected by His Ways
Imagine driving along a winding mountain road and there’s a guardrail beside you. The guardrail may feel restrictive, but it isn’t there to ruin your journey. It’s there to keep you safe on your journey.
This is similar to God’s intended purpose for the Ten Commandments. His commandments were not created to keep us from life, they’re meant to protect us as we live the full, abundant life He called us to live.
It’s easy to read the Ten Commandments as a list of restrictions, but every command reveals a beautiful truth: God is a good Father who deeply loves and longs to protect His children.
Sometimes we focus so much on what God is asking us to give up, that we miss what He’s trying to give us. Every “You shall not” is rooted in His perfect love. His commands aren’t barriers designed to keep us from joy; they’re guardrails that protect us from the things that destroy our lives.
God sees what we can’t see. He knows where certain paths lead, which is why His guidance is always for our good. What may feel limiting today could be the very thing He uses to protect your heart, your relationships, and your future.
Take a moment to reflect. Is there an area where you’ve viewed God’s guidance as restrictive instead of protective? Ask Him to help you trust that every instruction He gives us flows from His deep love and wisdom.
Prayer Practice: Lord, thank You for placing protective guardrails in my life. Forgive me for any times I’ve viewed Your commands as restrictions rather than protection. Help me to trust Your wisdom and love, so that I can safely follow Your path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. - Joshua 1:8Yahweh’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. Yahweh’s testimony is sure, making wise the simple. Yahweh’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. Yahweh’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of Yahweh is clean, enduring forever. Yahweh’s ordinances are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb. Moreover by them is your servant warned. In keeping them there is great reward. - Psalms 19:7-11But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does. - James 1:22-25
