Praying With Expectation
A Devotional to Help You Pray Faith-filled Prayers
READ:
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" Matthew 7:7-10
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12
DEVOTIONAL:
Do you ever catch yourself focused on how big your problem is rather than how big God is? God invites us to bring our fears to Him, but He also invites us to move from fear to faith. Prayer is the place where we bring our troubles—but we can also bring the Truth.
One practical way to pray with faith is to start your prayer time with worship and thanksgiving. Thank God for how big He is and for all the times He came through for you in the past. Philippians 2:9 tells us that Jesus is the name above every name—which means you can declare that He is above whatever you are facing.
Another way to pray with faith and expectation is to declare God’s promises. There are many promises in Scripture for your life, such as rest, peace, provision, and unfailing love. Thank God for a specific promise that applies to your situation—and thank God that He is faithful to fulfill His promises.
PRAYER:
God, thank you that you are bigger than any problem I face. Thank you that nothing is impossible for you. Thank you for the promises in your Word. Help me today to trust you fully and seek you with great expectation. Amen.
