When the world feels dark, what does it look like to shine God’s light? We need to live with a faith that is both bold and kind—standing firm in truth while extending compassion to the broken. True boldness isn’t about winning arguments or defending positions. It means we can stand tall and speak the truth in courage while bowing low in humility, and fighting on our knees in prayer.
The verses below remind us that we are called to shine light into darkness, to live unashamed of the gospel, and to represent Christ with both courage and compassion.
"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.” --Billy Graham
1.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14–16
2.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5
3.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." —Jesus
John 14:1
4.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.
Hebrews 6:19
5.
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7
6.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8
7.
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13
8.
Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness… After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
Acts 4:29, 31
9.
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:20
10.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Romans 1:16
