Christ Fellowship Team
OPEN IN PRAYER:
Open with a short prayer, or ask one of your kids to pray. Feel free to read along with the prayer below.
Jesus, thank you for our family. Thank you that we can come together to learn more about you. Holy Spirit, be with us as we read your Word and apply it to our lives. Amen.
READ SCRIPTURE:
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2 Peter 1:3
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ…
Titus 2:11-13
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21
DISCUSS:
1. When is it hardest for you to use self-control? (Some examples: eating too many sweets, speaking harshly or without thinking, or for parents, it might be driving too fast on the freeway.)
2. How do the verses we read today encourage us to live with self-control and be careful with our words?
3. Read Galatians 5:22-23 again out loud. Share which Fruit of the Spirit you think the person on your left has grown in the most this year.
4. Share about a time when you felt God’s strength to help you respond the right way or say the right thing.
PRAYER:
Ask each family member if there is anything they would like prayer for. You can use the guided prayer below or have each family member pray for the person on their right.
Jesus, thank you for giving us strength to live a godly life and respond with love. Help us to use self-control in our actions, words, and thoughts. Let our family reflect your light, life, and love. Let our family reflect your goodness and kindness to one another and to the world. Amen.
