Start Talking – Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.
- Have you ever had a pet? What did caring for a pet teach you?
- Describe a time in your life when a leader helped you make a good decision.
Keep Reading – Read the scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.
Read these Scriptures out loud:
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
- What comes to mind when you think of a masterpiece?
- What does it make you think about yourself knowing that the Bible says we are God’s masterpiece?
John 10:11, 18
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep… No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”
- What difference does it make that Jesus sacrificed His life voluntarily, and that no one could take it from Him?
Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.
1. The Good Shepherd KNOWS you PERSONALLY
- What does the fact that God knows us personally tell us about who God is?
- What emotions do you feel knowing that the Psalmist writes “the thoughts God has for you outnumber the grains of sand”?
2. The Good Shepherd LEADS you FAITHFULLY
- Why can we trust that God will lead us faithfully?
- In John 10 Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice.” What can we do to hear the voice of the shepherd more clearly?
3. The Good Shepherd DIED for you WILLINGLY
- Why would Jesus sacrifice His life for us?
- What type of response does this demand from you?

- What is one thing you can do this week to follow the shepherd more closely?
- Pick one of this week’s key Scriptures and make it a reminder in your phone. Spend a few minutes repeating it and thinking about it each day.
