What Is Truth?
Timeless Truths for Truthless Times | Week 1
Christ Fellowship Team
October 20, 2024
Pastor Todd kicked off a new series this week called, “Timeless Truths for Truthless Times.” If you’ve ever struggled to find the truth in a world filled with fake news, filters, and half-truths then this series through the book of Proverbs is for you! Use this guide to talk about Sunday’s sermon with your small group.
SERMON HIGHLIGHTS
- Truth is not:
- What you feel
- What culture decides
- Circumstantial
- We make our decisions and then our decisions make us.
- “Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.” Charles Spurgeon
- The fear of the Lord actually means you don’t fear anybody else.
KEY SCRIPTURES
START TALKING
- Play the game Two Truths and a Lie. Have every member of the group make three statements about themselves, two of which are true and one which is a lie. Then, have the group guess which one they think is the lie for each individual.
KEEP TALKING
- When have you asked yourself the question, “How did I end up here?”
- When was the last time you confused your feelings for truth? Why do you think that’s dangerous?
- Truth is not what culture decides. Where might you be letting culture decide what’s true for you?
- Pastor Todd said we can increase our level of wisdom. Where do you need more wisdom right now?
- Wisdom isn’t about what we know, but what we do with what we know. What’s something the Lord has taught you (through His Word or through church) that you need to put into practice so you can move from simply having knowledge to actually walking in wisdom?
- What would it look like for you to live your life this week with a fear of the Lord? What would change?
KEEP IT GOING
- If you’re looking to get the most out of this sermon series, we’ve got a reading plan for you! Pop open your CF App and check out our new Proverbs Reading Plan. It’s a great way to keep wisdom in front of you all week long.
PRAYER
Father, we desperately need Your wisdom. Thank You for offering it so freely to us. Holy Spirit, give us ears to hear Your Words and the wisdom to apply Your Truth to our lives. Amen.
