In this message, Pastor Julie shared how following the gentle way of Jesus and considering the power of our words can transform our relationships. Use this guide to keep talking about how to build better relationships!

SERMON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The quality of your communication impacts the quality of your relationships.
  • God gave Adam and Eve the power to speak, and what they spoke stuck.
  • Not everything you want to say needs to be heard.
  • When you want to speak up, slow down. Feelings are indicators, not dictators.
  • If Jesus is Lord of your life, He must also be Lord of your lips.
  • There is a king and a fool inside every person, and whichever one you speak to will stand up.

KEY SCRIPTURES

START TALKING

  • Pastor Julie started her message by giving us a tutorial on the slang Gen Alpha is using. What’s a word or phrase from your generation that would completely confuse Gen Alpha today? What’s a phrase the younger generations use that you still don’t understand?

KEEP TALKING

  • What was your biggest takeaway from this message?
  • The words we speak have the power to change how we feel. How have you been feeling lately, and how can you trace that feeling back to the words you’ve been speaking?
  • Pastor Julie talked about how words stick with us. What words have stuck with you?
  • We learned that negative words are “stickier” than positive words. How have you found this to be true in your own life and relationships?
  • Read James 1:19. Which part of this verse is the hardest for you to apply? What relationship would benefit the most if you applied this one verse to your life?

KEEP IT GOING

  • Relationships are complicated, but they get better when we choose to be kind. Here are 35 small ways to spread kindness this week. And don’t forget to start that gratitude journal this week! Writing down 10 things you’re grateful for each week can make a big difference!

PRAYER

Father, we’re so grateful for the life-changing words we can read in Scripture. Holy Spirit, help us to shut our mouths when we’re tempted to break a window with our words. We need your wisdom to speak words that build, encourage, and empower the people around us. We want you to be the Lord of our lives and the Lord of our lips. Amen.
