The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.
Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.
- When you want to know the truth about something, where is usually the first place you look?
- What have you noticed over the past week, since hearing Pastors Todd & Julie talk about the need for our own personal Pentecost?
Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.
Read these Scriptures out loud:
John 14:6
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- What does it mean that Jesus is the truth?
- How does this verse about truth contrast with the message we often hear in culture that truth is subjective, collective, or nonexistent?
John 8:31-32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
- What is the connection between following Jesus’ teachings, and the truth setting us free?
- What does it mean to be set free by truth?
Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.
1. God’s Word
- Read Isaiah 40:8. Why does this verse give us confidence that we can build our life on God’s Word?
- What does this look like practically speaking? When you seek truth, where do you go to find it? Do you go to the Word of God, or do you go to Google, social media, friends,…?
2. God’s Spirit
- How can we give the Holy Spirit more to work with, as Pastor Todd mentioned in his message? Take a moment to read John 14:26 – Jesus says that one of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to teach us and to remind us of the words of Jesus. Since we know that Jesus is the Word (John 1:1,14; Rev. 19:13), this promise applies to all of Scripture. However, notice that Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will remind us of what the Word says; we can’t be reminded of something unless we have already read it or already know it. We have to be regularly reading the Word in order to give the Holy Spirit something to work with.
- How can we discern when it is the Holy Spirit speaking to us, and not just our own wants and desires?
3. God’s People
- When has God used someone else to help you understand truth? What about a time when God used you to help someone else understand truth?
- Do you find it easy or difficult to allow people to speak truth into your life? How can we become more open to that?
Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.
- What is one thing you can do this week to rely more on God’s Word, God’s Spirit, or God’s people to know truth?
- Pick one of this week’s key Scriptures and make it a reminder in your phone. Spend a few minutes repeating it and thinking about it each day.
- S.O.A.P out the Scripture this week.
