The Work of Salvation
Am I Really Saved? | Old School Part 1
Todd Mullins
The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.
Start Talking – Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.
- What are some “Old School” traditions you grew up with?
- What comes to mind when you hear the phrase, “Are you saved?”
Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.
Read these Scriptures out loud:
If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9
- Pastor Told shared how believing is not an intellectual agreement/acknowledgment of something to be true, but a devoted action based on what you know to be true. How has this challenged or changed how you understand what it means to “believe” in something?
- Pastor Todd shared the definition of “Lord” as the “Master, ruler, and one with all authority.” If Jesus is the Lord of your life, how might this change how you choose to live?
If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
Luke 9:23
- What do you think it means to “give up your own way?”
- What does following Jesus look like in your daily life?
Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.
1. Eternal life is not a reward to get but a God to know
- Read John 17:3.
- How does this statement build your understanding of salvation?
2. We don’t work for our salvation, but we need to work it out
- Pastor Todd spent some time unpacking Philippians 2:12-13. Take a moment to read this passage again.
- Notice that we “work out” our salvation, we do not "work for" – salvation is entirely a gift of grace. We cannot earn salvation, only receive it by faith.
- What area do you need to work with the Holy Spirit to work in you? How can you make more room for the Holy Spirit to work in you this week?
Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.
Check up on yourselves. Are you really Christians? Do you pass the test? Do you feel Christ’s presence and power more and more within you? Or are you just pretending to be Christians when actually you aren’t at all?
2 Cor. 13:5
As you check up on yourself, where are you right now in your relationship with God? What can you do to partner with the work the Holy Spirit wants to do in and through you so that you can “feel Christ’s presence and power more and more”?
- Pick one of this week’s key Scriptures and make it a reminder in your phone. Spend a few minutes repeating it and thinking about it each day.
- S.O.A.P out the Scripture this week.
