The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.

Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

  • What is the most memorable part of the story of Jonah to you?
  • What place would you most like to visit and why?

Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

Read these Scriptures out loud:

Jonah 1:1-3

  • Reflect on a time when you have run away from God rather than obeyed Him. Share that experience.
  • Was it possible to stay away from God’s presence?

Jonah 2:10-3:10

  • After Jonah is thrown overboard, swallowed by a great fish, and spit up 3 days later, God tells Jonah a second time to deliver His message.
  • God gave Jonah a second chance to obey. This gave the people in Nineveh a second chance to repent and turn to God. What can we learn about ourselves and God in this passage?

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

God always has compassion for the lost.

  • Read Jonah 4:1-4. Jonah did God’s will, but he didn’t have God’s heart. Why was Jonah angry? What are some results that come from holding on to anger, even if it seems justified?
  • How does God demonstrate his compassion for the lost?

God always sends his people to reach those who are lost.

  • What are some reasons we don’t share our faith with others?
  • How can you overcome those reasons and be comfortable sharing the good news and your story? Where are you on this journey and where do you want to be?

God’s people don’t always have His heart for the lost.

  • Pastor Ryan shared that Jonah has been called “God’s reluctant missionary” and the truth is that we are like Jonah. If we don’t carry a burden for the lost, we won’t make the effort. God doesn’t want us to have Jonah’s heart for the lost. He wants us to have Jesus’ heart for the lost.
  • What practical steps can we take to cultivate hearts like Jesus for the lost in our lives?

Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Pray - Ask God to show you His heart for the lost. Ask God to give you His heart for the lost. Ask God for opportunities to share His heart with the lost. Don’t run from the opportunities God gives you.
