The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.

Start Talking –
Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

  • What is the most significant thing that God has spoken to you through the “Old School” series over the past four weeks?
  • As we approach Labor Day weekend, what traditions do you and your family have?

Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

Read these Scriptures out loud:

Revelation 12:11

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.
  • This verse reveals that we overcome based upon what Jesus has already done for us through His sacrificial death on the cross (the blood of the Lamb) and by speaking about what God has done in our lives and in the lives of His people.
  • What do you think the significance of these two components is? Why do you think it is so important that we speak about our testimonies?

Psalm 119:111

I have inherited your testimonies forever. For they are the joy of my heart.
  • Pastor Julie shared that a testimony is a written or spoken record of what God has done. What this verse makes clear is that the stories of what God has done in the past are part of the inheritance of everyone who belongs to Him through faith in Jesus.
  • What breakthrough are you currently praying for? What do you see in the testimony of God that speaks to that exact same issue you are believing for?

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

1. Testimony is not just history, it’s prophecy

  • Revelation 19:10 says that “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
  • While testimonies are stories of what God has done in the past, they are not just historical stories. Our testimonies are prophetic in that they also speak into the future, anticipating that what God has done in the past He can and will do again.
  • How does this understanding of testimony impact what it means to share your testimony and to hear the testimonies of others?

2. When you testify, it will stir up curiosity in others

  • In John 9, we read the story of the man born blind whom Jesus healed. As we read this story, we see that the man shares his testimony over and over again, and each time it generates more interest, more curiosity.
  • Have you ever shared a testimony of something that God did in your life? What was the result of sharing that story?

3. Our testimony is an invitation for Jesus to show up again

  • As Pastor Julie shared, the Hebrew word that is translated as “testimony” comes from a root word that literally means, “do it again.” So, when we share our testimony, we are inviting Jesus to do again what He has already done in the past.
  • Do you know anyone who is going through something now that God has already brought you through? Have you shared your testimony with them, inviting Jesus to do in their lives what He’s done in yours?
  • Are you currently praying and believing God for something? Do you know someone who has a testimony about God bringing them through a similar situation? What about stories (testimonies) from the Bible that speak to your situation – what testimony can you stand on as you believe for your breakthrough?

Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Challenge: Speak up! Begin to share the stories of what God has done in your life with others.
  • Pick one of this week’s key Scriptures and make it a reminder in your phone. Spend a few minutes repeating it and thinking about it each day.
  • S.O.A.P out the Scripture this week.
