Pastor Todd is continuing our journey through the book of Proverbs and what it means to walk in wisdom and fear the Lord. Use this guide to keep talking about Sunday’s sermon with your small group!

SERMON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Proverbs is filled with principles for living rather than promises for life.
  • Don’t trade what you want the most for what you want in the moment.
  • When you don’t have the fear of the Lord, you forget that He is the Lord.

KEY SCRIPTURES

START TALKING

  • What’s one of your biggest fears (e.g., heights, spiders, snakes, etc.)

KEEP TALKING

  • What was your main takeaway from this sermon?
  • In his message, Pastor Todd discussed four kinds of people: the simple, the fool, the mocker, and the wise. The simple person is simply inexperienced. When have you made a mistake because you just didn’t know what you didn’t know?
  • Proverbs 13:20 says, “The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm.” How have you grown in wisdom because of the people surrounding you? When have you suffered because you got too close to a fool?
  • We can lose our fear of the Lord because of our familiarity with Him. Have you become too familiar with Jesus, and could you be taking His grace for granted? Talk about it.
  • Psalms 25:14 says, “The Lord confides in those who fear him.” What things in your life might be preventing God from confiding in you? How can you make space for God to “sit on the couch” and talk with you this week?

KEEP IT GOING

  • Pastor Todd gave us three truths to declare out loud every day this week. Commit to saying these not only every morning but also every time you’re tempted to question whether God knows best.
    • God, You are AWESOME.
    • God, You are HOLY.
    • God, You are RIGHT.
  • And don’t forget to stay in our Proverbs Reading Plan. Remember, the wise are always adding to their wisdom, and reading Proverbs is an easy way to do that!

PRAYER

Father, thank You for being willing to confide in us. What a gift to know that You long to share secrets with us. We acknowledge that Your thoughts are higher and Your ways are better. Cultivate a healthy fear of You in us so we can walk in Your wisdom. We love You. Amen.
