The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.

Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

  • Would you rather go a week without having access to your text messages or emails? Why?
  • You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what is it?

Keep Reading – Read the scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

James directly addressed issues surrounding the tongue and its ability to cause harm. Let’s look at what he said together.

James 4:1

“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?”

  • Have you ever slowed down to ask this question? What is causing fights and quarrels among you? Take a moment to unpack this. (Ex. Pride, envy, selfish ambition)
  • What desires or expectations have you noticed battle within you while in a conflict? (ex. I want to be understood, I want to be right, I want to control)

James 4:4

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

  • Pastor Ryan explains this verse acknowledges the choice we have to either follow the Spirit or the fresh. How have you experienced this tug-of-war?
  • The word enmity speaks of becoming hostile towards someone else. Have you ever considered how fighting for your own pleasures makes you hostile to God, who takes pleasure in providing for you? Take a moment to unpack this.

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

1. “The way of the world won’t give us what we want”

  • Pastor Ryan says this is why fights and quarrels come about because the world doesn’t have what you need.
  • How does this change your understanding of choosing God over the world?

2. “Wherever you go, whatever you do, God is with you”

  • In this message, we are reminded that we are a temple of the Holy Spirit and that we are united with the Spirit of God.
  • How should this inform where you choose to go and what you choose to do?

3. Even in our unfaithfulness, God is completely faithful to us.

  • Pastor Ryan shared that we have a tendency to turn to other gods, but God is still faithful. How does she display God’s love for you?
  • What action can you take to start daily responding to this faithful love for you?

Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.

Pastor Ryan gave us the challenge to ask ourselves “Will I choose friendship with the world, or will I choose submission to God because He’s been faithful to me?”

  • Pick one of this week’s key Scripture and make it a reminder in your phone. Please spend a few minutes repeating it and thinking about it each day.
  • S.O.A.P out the Scripture this week.
