In this message, special guest Christine Caine helped us close out our series on the life of Joseph by sharing how we can find purpose in our pain. Use this guide to keep talking about how to handle those who have hurt you.

SERMON HIGHLIGHTS

  • What Jesus did for us is bigger than anything anybody could ever do to us.
  • The blood of Jesus doesn’t give us amnesia—it gives us the power to move forward.
  • If we don’t deal with our stuff, then our stuff will deal with us.
  • How Joseph chose to resolve the trauma of his past determined whether or not he was able to walk in his purpose.
  • We’re never more like God than when we forgive.

KEY SCRIPTURES

START TALKING

  • What’s the most ridiculous excuse you’ve ever used — or heard someone else use — to get out of doing something they were supposed to do?

KEEP TALKING

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from this series on the life of Joseph?
  • Christine Caine said, “We don’t dream dreams—we scroll Instagram to tell God the dream we would like.” Where have you confused a personal desire with a God-given dream?
  • How might the pain or trauma from your past be keeping you stuck today?
  • Read Genesis 50:20. How have you seen God use something painful in your life for a greater purpose—even if you couldn’t see it at the time?
    • How does reflecting on that challenge you to walk in freedom today?
  • Joseph had a lot of opportunities to get even, but he chose grace. When the tables have turned in your life, how have you responded—with revenge, silence, or grace?
  • Most Christians settle for deliverance, but never walk in freedom because they don’t forgive. Who do you need to extend forgiveness and grace to this week so you can walk in freedom?

KEEP IT GOING

PRAYER

Father, thank you for the forgiveness you’ve freely given us. Help us forgive those who have hurt us, like you’ve forgiven us. Holy Spirit, show us how to walk in freedom and experience your healing. Amen.
