Calling Over Comfort
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone and Into Your Calling | Worth Fighting For Part 3
Julie Mullins
The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.
Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.
Hang on tight and let’s take a deep dive into a question that Pastor Julie asked in the beginning of the teaching this week. This one query builds into many others. Some thorough introspection here could be a good thing for us during our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting.
“How many of you know that without a plan a vision is really just a fantasy?”
- Do you have a personal vision for your life? Do you feel that God has ever given you a vision for your life?
- Have you ever intentionally sat down, processed, and developed steps to bring that vision into reality? Have you ever asked God to show you what steps you need to take to get where He wants you to go?
Keep Reading – Read the scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.
Nehemiah 1:3
Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.
- Do you identify with this verse in any way?
- Can you name specific places in your life that have been broken down and need to be rebuilt? What are those areas?
Nehemiah 2:17-18
- How have you viewed the definition of the word “good” prior to this weekend’s message?
- How did Pastor Julie’s teaching on the meaning behind the Hebrew word for good, tov, impact your understanding of what the Word of God means in terms of good work, God working things for our good, etc.?
Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.
Pastor Julie shared with us the beauty that can be found in partnering with God. Linking our purpose to His divine purpose to see extraordinary things happen. And then she helped us lay out a plan to help this happen.
1. Leave the place of comfort to go to a place of calling.
- It can be really comfortable to visualize what needs to be done and to even dream of solutions to problems but to stop with just visualizing.
- Historically, what is it that has stopped you from just dreaming and moving forward into doing? What “good work” do you sense God calling you to?
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
2. Commit my good work to God’s greater work.
- Pastor Julie painted a good word picture about the “greater work” when she talked about the Avengers. Each Marvel character had importance on their own— but they were able to do truly incredible things when they came together.
- Have you ever really considered that you have a place in the “greater work” God wants to do in the world? And what that place might be?
…fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!
Nehemiah 4:14
3. Fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
- I think we understand that if we can move past our fears and into the “good work” God has for us that our lives will be more fulfilled. That is a personal benefit. Let’s look beyond that.
- How will your obedience impact your family? Your friendships? Your workplace? Your school? Your community? Our world?
You’ll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again.
Isaiah 58:12
Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.
- Continue to be a part of our Christ Fellowship 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting devotional in YouVersion.
- Stand strong in your fasting. If you have not been a part of our church-wide time of prayer and fasting— do not worry. It is never too late to start. This is your week.
Keep Praying
- Pick up a “brick.” Be intentional in your prayers this week, asking God to show you what you can do to step into the good work that He has planned.
- We have special Prayer services happening on-site at our different locations. Find the closest one to you and join us. If you are not nearby you can create your own with your family and friends.
