6 Proverbs To Remember This Election
Timeless Truths for Truthless Times | Week 3
Christ Fellowship Team
November 3, 2024
Pastor Ryan McDermott shared six Proverbs every Christian should remember as we enter Election Week in the United States. Use this guide to keep talking about how we can practice wisdom and play our part in restoring righteousness to our nation.
SERMON HIGHLIGHTS
- To be afraid of the Lord is to fear coming close to Him. To fear the Lord is to be afraid of being far from Him.
- Don’t let your mouth destroy your ability to be His hands and feet.
- It’s possible to honor someone and disagree with them at the same time.
- The tongue has the power of life and death—and that’s not a metaphor.
- If you are a follower of Jesus, you should not vote your values. You should vote God’s values.
KEY SCRIPTURES
START TALKING
- Pastor Ryan talked a lot about the power of our words today. What’s the last kind word or compliment you received that made your day?
KEEP TALKING
- The book of Proverbs is considered wisdom literature, and it was written to teach the audience how to live a good life. What is your definition of a good life?
- Proverbs 18:2 says, “Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.” Is there a relationship or area of your life where you’re guilty of airing your opinion and not listening to understand? Talk about what it would look like to implement the wisdom of this verse this week.
- Proverbs 31:8-9 talks about speaking up for those who have no voice. Who do you feel compelled to speak up for?
- Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” When have you been sure you were right, only to realize later you were wrong about an issue? How does that situation motivate you to stay close to the Lord?
- Proverbs 12:18 says, “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” When have words either pierced you or helped heal you? Talk about it.
- How are you using your words lately?
- Who can your words help heal this week?
KEEP IT GOING
- Pastor Ryan pointed out that 32 million church-going Christians will not vote in this election. As your church family, we want to encourage you to take a step this week and vote. Spend time in God’s Word and prayer for our country, asking the Lord what He values so you can vote with wisdom.
- And don’t forget to stay in our Proverbs Reading Plan this week!
PRAYER
Father, thank You for calling us citizens of Heaven. Holy Spirit, pour Your Spirit out on us this week—as individuals, families, communities, and a nation. We humbly ask that You heal our land. You are the answer we need. You are the peace we crave. May we find our hope and our wisdom in You alone. Amen.
