The 3 Lies Unforgiveness Tells You | Keep Talking
Free Indeed | Week 1
Christ Fellowship Team
September 28, 2025
In this message, Pastors Todd and Julie kicked off a new series called “Free Indeed,” where we learned what it looks like to embark on a journey of healing by choosing to walk in forgiveness. Use this guide to keep talking about how to forgive someone, even when you don’t feel like it.
SERMON HIGHLIGHTS
- Forgiveness is central to the gospel.
- Forgiveness is not:
- A feeling
- Forgetting
- Reconciliation
- In God’s kingdom, forgiveness isn’t optional—it’s cultural.
- An apology is not a prerequisite for your forgiveness, but your forgiveness is a prerequisite for your healing.
- “We come to the cross to learn how we may be forgiven, but we linger at the cross to learn how we may forgive.” Charles Spurgeon
- We can pray now or pay later.
- You can’t change the past, but forgiveness will change your future.
KEY SCRIPTURES
START TALKING
- What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever gotten mad at someone over (e.g., eating your leftovers, taking your phone charger, hogging the TV remote, stealing your parking space, etc.)?
KEEP TALKING
- What was your biggest takeaway from this message?
- Read Ephesians 2:8-9. How might grasping God’s grace influence the way we extend forgiveness to people in our lives?
- When have you struggled to forgive someone in the past? How did that impact your life and heart?
- Forgiveness isn’t about keeping score; it’s about losing count. What might “losing count” look like in a relationship for you right now?
- Think about a person you know you need to forgive. What step do you need to take this week so you can forgive them and start walking in freedom?
KEEP IT GOING
- Freedom isn’t a destination—it’s a journey, and you shouldn’t walk it alone. If you’re ready to experience life-giving relationships and life-changing faith, sign up for our 8-week Freedom Study. Let’s fight for our freedom together!
PRAYER
Father, thank you for giving us grace we could never earn. We’re sorry for the times we’ve forgotten your mercy and failed to extend forgiveness to those in our lives. We can’t walk in freedom or extend forgiveness without you, so we ask for supernatural strength and grace. Do a work in us so we can do the hard work of forgiveness. Amen.
