Daniel Fast Recipes

Recipe ideas for 21 days of prayer and fasting.

During the 21 days of prayer and fasting, people will fast in various ways. However, one of the most common fasts is the Daniel Fast. If you want to learn more about the Daniel Fast and read the approved food list, click here

If you’re ready to dive in, here is a list of Daniel Fast approved recipes:

Breakfast Ideas:

Baked Oatmeal With Blueberries

To make this baked oatmeal, you'll need rolled oats, fresh blueberries, pecans, dried mulberries (or raisins), dried cranberries, dates, coconut milk, and salt. Chop the mulberries, dates, and pecans. Mix all ingredients together and bake in a greased 8x8 baking dish on 350 degrees for 40 minutes. For the full recipe, click here

Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to get fruit, veggies, fat, and even protein in the morning. Use coconut or almond milk (use full-fat coconut milk from the can if you want extra fat) and add your favorite fruits like berries and bananas. Add ice if you prefer your smoothie thick and cold. Some people mix in spinach and kale as well as a plant-based protein powder. For a link to smoothie recipe ideas, click here

Oat Muffins

Grab some oat flour and oats, apples, date syrup, spices, and nuts, and you have what you need to make some Daniel Fast muffins. Grind one cup oats until fine like flour, grease 12 cup muffin tin, combine all ingredients. Fill muffin tins ½ full and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Click here for the full recipe

Lunch and Dinner Ideas:

Power Bowls

Power bowls are a great go-to on the Daniel Fast and have a lot of variety. Simply make quinoa or rice as your base and layer the top with various veggies such as sweet potatoes, kale, zucchini, or peppers. For a southwest-style power bowl, add corn, black beans, avocado, cilantro, and chopped tomato. Click here for more power bowl ideas.

Sheet Pan Dinner

Chop up veggies such as broccoli, red onions, sweet potatoes, and red peppers. Toss in olive oil and consider adding a protein like chickpeas and seasoning. Spread the veggies on a baking sheet and cook for 20 minutes at 450 degrees. Rotate and flip veggies and cook for an additional 10 minutes. For a complete sheet pan recipe, click here

Bountiful Bean Chili

Mix together black, pinto, and red beans with veggies and a whole lot of spices and you’ll get a Daniel Fast approved (but flavorful) chili. In a large pot, add olive oil, onion, celery, carrot, peppers, mushrooms, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook until onions start to soften. Add spices, then add tomatoes, water, beans, thyme, oregano, and sage. Cover and let simmer for 20 minutes. Stir regularly. Add corn and let simmer for another 10 minutes. Link to full recipe here

Spaghetti Squash Spaghetti

Skip the meat and replace your regular noodles with spaghetti squash noodles, and you’ve got yourself a Daniel Fast friendly spaghetti. Slice the spaghetti squash in half and lay face down on a baking sheet, cooking for 1 hour at 375 degrees. Top with a clean or homemade marinara sauce and seasoning. For the full recipe, click here.
